Lincoln Technology Plan -- Action Plan
To achieve the desired state, the Lincoln Community School must embrace
a five point plan to integrate information technology. This includes:
- acquiring current computer and video equipment and telecommunications
systems.
- purchasing educational software and/or programming for the purpose
of research and support of curriculum objectives.
- offering professional development programs in information technology.
- providing technical support and assistance to keep these resources
in good working condition.
- creating outreach programs to share information technology resources
with parents and other community members.
The Action Plan sets forth the steps Lincoln must begin to take.
Software Procurement
Administrative and Management
The school office should be connected to the computer network at the
ANESU office. To do this we need to purchase the appropriate software and
a modem for the office computer. In concert with district plans and goals,
Lincoln needs to research administrative and management software to handle
student records and to produce required reports to the ANESU office or
to the Vermont Department of Education. Budget preparation files should
be exchanged electronically with ANESU office personnel and compatible
software and procedures are required.
Communications and Information Access
Every classroom needs Internet access. A network modem could provide
this access via a proxy server. Each classroom computer will need electronic
mail software (such as Eudora), Internet browser software (e.g., Netscape
or Internet Explorer), and any other Internet utility software as needed.
Newer versions of this software are needed in all classrooms, in the media
center, and in the Principal's office.
Instructional and Curricular
- Immediate Goals - 1997-98
- Simulation software such as "Amazon Trail, Sim City or Oregon
Trail".
- Multimedia software such as Kid Pix and Hyperstudio
- Upgrade existing encyclopedias on CD-ROMs
- Long Term Goals
- Each class will have access to CD-ROMs and other software that will
mesh with units they are teaching.
- Classroom teachers will have access to software to teach keyboarding
to students on every grade level (K-6).
- Staff will have access to current copies of word processing and desktop
publishing software to create documents, newsletter, announcements, etc.
- Students will have access to current copies of word processing and
desktop publishing software to produce projects, papers, graphs, spreadsheets,
etc.
- Staff and students will have access to software to operate the scanner,
as well as software such as Adobe Photoshop to edit the images that they
scan.
- The school will increase its software budgets to accommodate the growth
of the student population. In this way there will be enough software for
each classroom.
- The library-media center will have access to software to circulate
materials using computers to record the information. In this way, the librarian
can better keep track of and locate materials.
- The library-media center will have the software to run an automated
card catalog, where the students and staff look for the material using
a computer.
- The library-media center will have access to an on-line periodical
review where students and staff can search for and locate current articles
from magazines and other periodicals.
