Lincoln Technology Plan -- Monitoring and Evaluation Process
Monitoring and evaluation are ongoing processes and involve many constitutents
-- the administration, teachers, students, The Technology Committee, the
School Board and community members. Each group has a specific role in this
process, as described below:
Administration:
The Principal is responsible for the overall implementation of the Information
Technology Plan. Specifically, the principal will ...
serve as a role model for the integration of information technology
in the curriculum and daily management of Lincoln Community School.
work with the ANESU Technology Coordinator and others to stay informed
of current trends in information technology and requirements set forth
by the Vermont Department of Education.
appoint a representative to the ANESU Technology Team each year.
meet with teachers and staff members to set annual information technology
goals as part of their personal professional development plans. These goals
will include basic competencies in using information technology as well
as curricular objectives to ensure that all Lincoln students meet the standards
set forth in Vermont's Framework of Standards and Learning Opportunities
and the ANESU Technology Matrix.
ensure that a Technology Committee (consisting of teachers, students,
community members and School Board representative) remains active each
year and meets at least twice during the school year. Whenever possible,
the Principal will be an active participant in the Technology Committee.
administer an annual survey to teachers and staff members to guage
basic competencies in information technology skills and thereby evaluate
and improve the professional development program. (The survey taken in
1997 will provide baseline data.)
provide a professional development program to further teacher and staff
competencies and best practices in the integration of information technology
in the curriculum.
gather information from teachers, staff, students and community members
on equipment needs, software purchases, personnel for educational and technical
support . In concert with recommendations set forth in the Technology Plan,
prepare an annual budget for the information technology program and present
this budget to the Lincoln School Board for approval.
supervise and evaluate personnel hired to support the technology needs
of the school.
provide an atmosphere that encourages collaboration with community
members to access information technology resources that are available at
Lincoln Community School.
Teachers/Students:
Precise student assessment has not begun as of this writing. During
the 1997-1998 school year, Lincoln teachers must begin to develop a system
for evaluating student performance in the areas of information technology
skills and integration. To evaluate progress, the Technology Committee
suggests that the school use an assessment instrument similar to the one
taken from Technology -- Indicators of Quality published by the
National Study of School Evaluation. The district Technology Plan will
undergo revision in the 1998-1999 school year and a district wide matrix
will be developed along similar lines by May, 1998.
Once the assessment instrument is developed, teachers will need to set
performance targets for each grade level at Lincoln Community School and
develop a reporting mechanism for students and parents.
The Technology Committee:
The Technology Committee will convene at least twice each year to evaluate
the information technology program at Lincoln Community School and to make
recommendations for the continuous improvement of this plan. The Technology
Committee will appoint one person to serve as Chair of the committee and
to be responsible for calling meetings, setting agendas, and other duties
to further the work of the committee. The Committee will keep minutes of
its meetings.
Committee membership is open to any interested person. The overall composition
of the committee should represent various stakeholders in the Lincoln community
and include teachers, parents, students, community members, local business
people, and School Board representatives.
The charge of the Technology Committee is to evaluate and monitor the
information technology program and to maintain this technology plan so
that it remains current and pertinent to the needs of the school. This
includes a yearly inventory of all hardware, software and human resources.
Further, the Technology Committee is to serve as a sounding board for the
direction of information technology integration within the school and within
the Lincoln community at large. Recommendations for improvement will be
set forth in the Technology Plan and will assist the Principal and School
Board in setting budgets for future school years.
Process for Reporting to Stakeholders
The Principal will administer annual surveys to assess the professional
development program for Lincoln faculty and staff. Teachers will conduct
annual student assessments and set performance targets for students at
each grade level. The results of the adult and student assessments should
drive the direction of technology improvement. If we track these assessments
successfully, they will provide the critical indicators of the areas in
which we need increased emphasis in order to more fully meet our vision
for all our students.
The information that we gather will be reported to faculty and staff
members via faculty meetings or through individual conferences at annual
goal setting meetings. Students and parents will receive reports through
conferences with teachers and through narrative reports from teachers.
The Technology Committee will report its findings
and observations each Fall to the School Board. The School Board may use
information contained in the Technology Plan in its Annual March Town Meeting
report to support budget requests.
To increase public awareness of information technology,
all constituents are encouraged to publish articles or hold events which
illustrate the effectiveness of information technology tools to improve
student learning. Articles in the weekly school newsletter or in theThe
Five Town News,The Addison Indepent and via the school's web site will
promote the use of information technology to increase student learning.
Lincoln School may consider holding a technology fair or incorporate information
technology demonstrations with other school events (such as open house
or spaghetti suppers) to increase awareness and support.
