I. Review of News Concerning Grants.

Sandy announced that Lincoln will receive funding from the Technology Literacy Grant. The Department of Education had not released information on the exact amount of the award, however. The recent passage of the FCC will bring lower rates for telecommunications access to schools and libraries. All Vermont schools will need to have technology plans in place. This too will have a positive impact on Lincoln in the coming year.

II. Minutes

The minutes of the April 28, 1997 meeting were reviewed and accepted with no amendments.

III.Review of the Technology Plan

The Committee members reviewed the current version of the Technology Plan and made suggestions for improvements. Sandy reviewed areas that had changed from the last version of the draft and will enter new revisions for the next meeting.

The Committee discussed the current facilities and discussed issues of space for information technology. Rick and Alice agreed to take a walk through the school and consider various spaces that could be used for a possible computer lab at the school. All facilities will be considered in terms of student and teacher work areas, network management areas, personnel and storage.

Curriculum and Information Technology Initiatives received considerable discussion. Sandy agreed to revise this section to include activities that had not been included.

Rick Good shared information he had obtained concerning the cost of networking and telecommunications. Sandy would add this information to the plan.

Rick reported that according to Bill Fogg at Champlain Valley Telecom, ISDN is not expected for several years in the Lincoln area. He suggested a 56KB dedicated line ($600 for installation). Farrallon prices for network cards; $800 for cards for all the machines plus the 16 hub port. This does not include wiring and labor. Union Microcom was contacted. (Rick estimates included network cards for 11 machines).

Sandy will research a contact about free cabling for network wiring.

Future work needs to look at computer configurations.

Debi offered to write a new description of her job responsibilities as it pertains to the technology plan.

Alice volunteered to work on the section entitled "Staff Competency Goals in Support of Student Learning."

IV. Next Meeting Date

The next meeting was set for June 9th at 6:30 p.m.

V. Adjournment

The meeting adjourned at approximately 8:40 p.m.
