Student Web Publishing Agreement

Dear Lincoln Community School Parents/ Guardians,

The Lincoln Community School has a web site. The web address is http://www.lincolncs.org.

Our web site is an easy way to access information about the school and school policies.  There is a calendar of events, breakfast and lunch menus as well as an online version of the newsletter. It also shows what is happening at the school, in the classrooms and at our school library.

As part of your child’s educational program, (s)he will have the opportunity to publish some of his/her work on the LCS web site.  Examples of published work include stories, poetry, research projects, multi-media presentations and original artwork.  Individuals with Internet access in Lincoln and around the world will be able to view your child’s work.  We think this is an exciting opportunity for our students

Our web site also includes student photos when parental permission is granted.  Having student photos makes for a more accurate portrayal of what goes on at the school, as well as a more engaging web site.  As one Internet security web site put it:

“Including images of pupils on the school web site can be motivating for the pupils involved and provide a good opportunity to promote the work of the school. It is important to balance the potential risks of including images of pupils on the web site against the design principles of creating colorful, attractive and relevant pages.”

We have developed a strict set of guidelines for Lincoln’s web site that will allow the use of student work and pictures but ensure every student’s privacy.

Lincoln Community School Web Publishing Guidelines

A student's last name will never be published.

Pictures will be displayed only for the following purposes: to show classroom or school activities, to highlight the activities of an academic group, club, athletic event or social gathering related to school.

If group pictures are posted, they may mention first names, but not which individuals are standing where in the picture.

If a picture is posted that contains only one student it will not include a name.

Under no circumstances will addresses or phone numbers of students ever be included.

No information will be included which indicates the physical location of a student at any given time other than attendance at our school or participation in school activities.

Pictures or student work will be displayed on the web only with the written permission of a parent.  That permission can be withdrawn at any time.

We will publish your child’s picture or work only with your written permission.  Please consider our web publishing guidelines that we will be following when publishing student photos or work on the web. Then sign and return this form to your child’s teacher as soon as possible.  Thank you for your cooperation.
